Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s with the name “Malebranche?’

“Malebranche” was initially an online handle–another user name like the five profile names you probably have.

It comes from Dante’s Inferno. The “Malebranche” are a family of demons who torment the corrupt. It’s a bit “gothic” for my taste these days, and I will probably move away from it, to my more stripped down, “real life” name, Jack Donovan.

At the time Androphilia was published, I had been blogging under that name for a while and it was the only name my initial audience for Androphilia knew me by, so it is what I used.

And, considering the fact that Androphilia was in part a polemic against The Gay Party–what I call the gay cultural and political advocacy establishment–”Malebranche” was kind of appropriate.

By the way, no, it never occurred to me that tons of people would think it was a clever euphemism for “penis.” Who calls a penis a “branch?” People really reach sometimes.  Geesh.

Q: Where’s the rest of the FAQ?

I’ve written several over the years, but can’t seem to find a copy. Until I write another one, which sounds boring as hell, please refer to this in-depth interview at The Hoover Hog, which answers a lot of frequently asked questions.
