There’s Something About Bob: Hetero/Homo Camraderie in Guy Ritchie’s Rocknrolla

A scene from the recent film Rocknrolla really struck me as being particularly authentic and well-handled, so I wrote about it for Mark Adnum’s Outrate site.

FYI, the ads tend to be a bit racy, so it’s NSFW.

BTW, If you’re new to my work and haven’t delved into my bio yet, and you’re scratching your head, the answer is “yeah.” It’s complicated. I’m more or less a paleoconservative who is also a homo, and I’ve spent the past few years advocating that homosexual men find common ground with straight men, embrace traditional masculine values, and reject effeminate, left-wing feminist gay culture.

However, as I’ve matured as a writer I realized that I am more interested in the plight of men generally, and that manhood and masculine virtues are far more interesting topics than “the gay.” Most homos are frankly lost causes, and I find that straight men generally get more amped about what I have to say than most gays, who are often nurturing adolescent wounds to their masculinity and who routinely side with women against men. If you have any questions, just ask.
